2022 San Diego Open, a WTA 500 tournament, on Hard, in San Diego, California, USA, 10-16 October 2022.
This is the first time the tournament has been held since 2015, when it was held as a WTA Challenger, and before that 2013, when as a WTA Premier level event, wildcard Samantha Stosur (5) defeated Victoria Azarenka (1) 6-2 6-3 in the final.
Semi final results:
Qualifier Donna Vekic defeated Danielle Collins 6-4 4-6 7-6(2) after play resumed from previous day.
Final:
Iga Swiatek (1) (Poland) v qualifier Donna Vekic (Croatia)
Swiatek won both previous matches between the pair - 2020 third round AO, and the following month opening round Doha.
Only two break points were faced in the opening set, and these were in the sixth game with Vekic serving.
Swiatek converted the second of them and led 4-2.
From there the top seed serve out the set 6-3.
Set two was a mirror image, with Vekic breaking in the sixth game, and proceeding to serve out the set 6-3.
The decider was a procession for the top seed.
Swiatek broke through in the first two Vekic service games on the way to a 5-0 lead.
In between, she allowed just one point out of thirteen to be lost on her own serve.
The rout was complete when Vekic was broken a third time in the set to finish the match,
Iga Swiatek won 6-3 3-6 6-0, to clinch her 11th title from 13 finals, and 8th this year.
