Blinkova 1st title in Romania

Final day in Cluj-Napoca.

2022 Transylvania Open by Verdino, a WTA 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 10-16 October 2022.

2021 champion (not defending):
Anett Kontaveit (2) who defeated Simona Halep (1) 6-2 6-3

Final:

Jasmine Paolini (Italy) v qualifier Anna Blinkova 

The four previous encounters between the players were split 2-2, Paolini winning the past two, most recently a WTA 125 Tour second round match in Contrexeville, July this year.

In this final, Blinkova saved a break point in game four of the opening set before breaking Paolini in the fifth and seventh games.
Blinkova served out the set 6-2.

There were break points faced in six of the first eight games of set two, and in five of those games, breaks occurred.
Only in game seven was a break avoided - by Paolini.
The Italian proceeded to serve out the set 6-3 and level the match.

The first five games of the decider went with serve - neither player was taken to deuce.
Blinkova broke the trend in game six and led 4-2.
When serving at 2-5 to stay in the match, Paolini was broken again, and the contest was over.

Anna Blinkova won the match 6-2 3-6 6-2, and took the title as a qualifier.
It was her first title in her first final.
It was the first final for both players.
