Mertens wins title in Monastir

Final:

Elise Mertens (5) (Belgium) v wildcard Alizé Cornet (3) (France)

The four previous matches between the players were split 2-2, with Mertens winning the most recent - first round St Petersburg, February this year.

Serve was held through the first four games of the opening set, with Cornet saving a break point in game one and Mertens saving two break points in game four.

Mertens achieved service breaks in the fifth and seventh games, and served out the set 6-2.

Mertens broke Cornet to love in the opening game of set two, and saved a break point before consolidating at 2-0.

Mertens won the remaining four games to take the match 6-2 6-0 and win the title.

This was the seventh title from eleven finals for Mertens, following on from her sixth in Melbourne, February 2021.
