Huesler 1st title in Sofia

Final day in Sofia.

2022 Sofia Open, an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Sofia, Bulgaria, 26 September - 2 October 2022.

Defending champion:
Jannik Sinner (1) who defeated Gaël Monfils (2) 6-3 6-4

Final:

Holger Rune (5) (Denmark) v Marc-Andrea Huesler (Switzerland)

In the only previous match between the players, Huesler defeated Rune in the first round, Bastad, July this year.

In the final, Huesler broke in the opening game of set one.
Huesler saved a break point before holding in the sixth game and led 4-2.

He saved another in the eighth game and held for 5-3.

Huesler served for the set at 5-4.
Service winner and volley winner gave him 40-15 and two set points.
Rune sent a backhand into the net and the set was Huesler’s 6-4.

Rune was down 0-40 in the opening game of set two, but saved all three break points and ultimately held serve.
No more break chances until Huesler was serving at 5-5.
Two set points were saved and Huesler forced a tie break.

Rune had two more set points, at 7-6 and 8-7.
Both chances slipped by.
From 7-8, Huesler won the next three points and the match was over.

Marc-Andrea Huesler won 6-4 7-6(8) and claimed the Sofia Open title.

This was the first title in his first final for Huesler.
