Final:
Wildcard Maria Sakkari (1) (Greece) v Mayar Sherif (Egypt)
The players had met twice previously - first in 2013, in an ITF tournament when both were teenagers, and Sherif won.
Of more relevance, Sakkari won a first round match against Sherif in Doha, March 2021.
In this final, Sakkari began well, breaking Sherif in the opening game, and consolidating for 2-0.
Sherif was taken to deuce before registering her first mark on the scoreboard in the third game,
Sherif broke back to level at 2-2, only to drop serve in the very next game.
Yet another service break and 3-3.
Serving at 4-4, Sherif was down 0-40. She saved two of the three break points, but not the third, and Sakkari broke for 5-4.
Serving for the set, the top seed was broken. 5-5.
Serving at 5-6 to stay in the set, Sakkari led 40-15, but was taken to deuce.
One more game point disappeared, and eventually serve was broken. The set was taken by Sherif 7-5.
Set two began as set one, with Sakkari breaking serve in the first game.
The top seed saved four break points before holding for 2-0, but was broken in the fourth game and it was 2-2.
Sherif saved two break points in the seventh game before holding and led 4-3.
Sakkari was down 0-40 in the next game, saved two break points but not the third, and Sherif was a game away from the match.
At 40-0 Sherif had three match points. Sakkari could only save one.
Mayar Sherif won the match 7-5 6-3 and claimed the title.
This was the first title for Mayar from her second final.
