The two previous matches the players were split 1-1.
The most recent was a victory to Kasatkina in the third round of this year’s Roland Garros.
In this final, after two opening service holds, three successive breaks occurred, two of the Rogers delivery.
Kasatkina consolidated, and eventually served at 5-4 for the set.
Rogers saw two chances to break back disappear and then had to save a set point.
A third break chance was converted, and games were 5-5.
A tie break was required, and Rogers raced to 6-1.
Kasatkina saved one of the five set points on offer, but Rogers won the next point, and took the set 7-6(2).
Two break chances in set two arrived - in games four and six.
Kasatkina converted in both, and that was enough to sweep the set 6-1
Kasatkina broke the Rogers serve in the opening game of set three, and no more break chances arose in the next five games.
Serving at 2-4, Rogers found herself in deep trouble at 0-40.
Only able to save one of the break points faced, she fell behind a double break.
A love game finished the match which Daria Kasatkina won 6-7(2) 6-1 6-2.
Victory secured the San Jose title, the fifth title from ten finals in Daria’s career.
The win also improved her ranking to a career high of #9.
