Event is part of a series, including two WTA 250 tournaments.
Held because of the Brisbane International being cancelled due to COVID-19.
Final:
Rafael Nadal (1) (Spain) v qualifier Maxime Cressy (USA)
This was the first meeting between the pair.
Nadal was gunning for another title to add to his long list.
Cressy was competing in his first ATP final.
Cressy saved break points in the opening game of set one, and again in the seventh game.
A tie break eventually was needed to separate them, and Nadal prevailed 7-6(6).
Game three in set two saw the first service break of the match. Cressy cracked the Spanish delivery and took a 2-1 lead.
Nadal broke back in the next game.
At 3-4 Cressy buckled under the pressure and Nadal broke again to lead 5-3 and woould serve for the title.
Despite one return winner, Cressy couldn’t deny Nadal who served it out easily 7-6(6) 6-3.
