Held because of the Brisbane International being cancelled due to COVID-19.
Final:
Veronika Kudermetova (3) (Russia) v Simona Halep (2) (Romania)
Halep had won both of the two previous meetings between the pair, most recently in Moscow in October 2021.
This was the third final for Kudermetova, and she was aiming for a second title, having been successful in Charleston in April 2021.
For Halep it was final number 41, and she was hoping for title number 23, her most recent coming in Rome in September 2020.
The first service break came in the third game, and it was Kudermetova who caused the damage, leading 2-1.
Halep broke back immediately.
It was then one way traffic with Halep taking the remaining games and the set 6-2.
The pair exchanged service breaks in set two, and games were 4-3 with Kudermetova to serve.
A break chance arrived for Halep in the eighth game, and a netted backhand from Kudermetova saw the break.
Halep served for the match and at 30-0 and ace produced three match points.
Only one was required and the title was Simona’s 6-2 6-3.
