Monfils wins Adelaide International

Final day in Adelaide.

2022 Adelaide International 1 an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Greenset, in Adelaide, Australia, 3-9 January 2022.
Event was held once previously, replacing the Sydney International, from 12-18 January 2020.

2020 champion:
Andrey Rublev (3) who defeated qualifier Lloyd Harris 6-3 6-0


Final:


Gaël Monfils (1) (France) v Karen Khachanov (2) (Russia)


This was the first time the pair had met in an ATP match.


In the 33rd final for Monfils, he was attempting to win his eleventh title. His last was in Rotterdam in February 2020.

In his sixth final, Khachanov was aiming for a fifth title, his most recent coming in the Paris Masters in November 2018.


Monfils saved two break points in the fifth game, and they were the only chances against serve until the tenth game.

Khachanov led 40-15, but let his lead slip and had to save two set points. He couldn’t save a third, and Monfils took the set 6-4.


Neither player was taken to deuce in set two until the tenth game.

Khachanov, as in set one, was broken when serving at 4-5, and Monfils won the match and title 6-4 6-4.
