Karatsev claims Sydney title

Final day in Sydney.

2022 Sydney Tennis Classic an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Greenset, in Sydney, Australia, 10-15 January 2022.
A one off tournament, held in conjunction with a WTA 500 event.
Held because of the Brisbane International being cancelled due to COVID-19.


Final:


Aslan Karatsev (1) (Russia) v wildcard Andy Murray (Great Britain)


The first encounter between the pair was this final.


In his fourth final, Karatsev was attempting to win a third title, his last coming in Moscow, October 2021.
In his 69th final, Murray was attempting to win his 47th title, his last coming in Antwerp, October 2019.

In the opening game Murray dropped serve after Karatsev converted his third break point.
No other break chances, in fact only five more points against serve, until Karatsev was serving for the set at 5-3,
With his first set point, Karatsev was successful, and he led 6-3,

As with set one, Murray failed to hold in his first service game of set two.
Karatsev consolidated to lead 3-0.
Murray had five opportunities to break back in the fifth game, but couldn’t use any of them. 4-1 Karatsev.
Serving at 5-3, Karatsev wasted two match points but clinched the title with his third 6-3 6-3.
