Final day in Melbourne.
2022 Melbourne Summer Set 2 - a WTA 250 tournament, on Hard Greenset, in Melbourne, Australia, 4-9 January 2022.
Event is part of a series, including an ATP 250 tournament.
Held because of the Brisbane International being cancelled due to COVID-19.
Final:
Amanda Anisimova (USA) v qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus)
This was the first clash between the pair.
Anisimova was aiming for her second title in her third final, following a win in Colombia in April 2019.
Sasnovich was also in her third final, but had yet to lift a winner’s trophy.
Sasnovich broke in the fifth game of set one, but Anisimova levelled at 4-4. Sasnovich saved a set point in the tenth game, but dropped serve again when serving at 5-6, and the American was ahead 7-5.
Things changed dramatically in set two, and Sasnovich raced to a 4-0 lead.
Taking the set 6-1 and leading set three 2-0, it appeared rosy for the Belarusian. However, Anisimova had other ideas and broke back in the fifth game. She broke once more to lead 5-4, then served out the match 7-5 1-6 6-4 for title number two.
