Added to the calendar to give more players more competition time to warm up for the Australian Open.
Final:
Arthur Rinderknech (France) v wildcard Thanasi Kokkinakis (Australia)
This was the first match between the pair, and both were competing in their first ATP final.
Neither player faced a break point for the first twelve games, and for the first 13 points of the tie break.
Kokkinakis failed when serving at 6 points to 7 and Rinderknech took the set 7-6(6).
Similar in set two - no service breaks and another tie break.
The first mini break went the way of Rinderknech who led 2-0.
From nowhere Kokkinakis won five successive points and leading 5-2 had the chance to serve it out,
Rinderknech won a point against serve, but not the second, and Kokkinakis had three set points.
One was saved with a brilliant French forehand. Another saved with a good serve,
At six points to five a big Kokkinakis serve enabled the Australian to take the set 7-6(5) and force a decider.
On a roll, Kokkinakis achieved the first service break of the match, and led 1-0 in set three.
No more breaks and Kokkinakis served it out 6-7(6) 7-6(5) 6-3 for his first title and at home.
