Main Draw - exemption ?

Following the tremendously successful experiment recently undertaken by Tennis Australia and the Victorian Government, serious consideration is now given to adding a new category when preparing tournament main draws. While using wildcards as additions to tournament main draws , now we may have subtractions from the draw - with exemptions.

The process for players seeking the exemption would be as follows:

Applications would be first reviewed by an expert panel made up of a few players from the nearest tennis club (if not available, then the bowls club is ok)

Applications meeting the international guidelines set by some arbitrary technical advisory group on tennis draws would then be subjected to a second review conducted by an independently appointed panel of more experts - The Independent Tennis Main Draw Exemption Review Panel.

The application would be reviewed and approved only in line with the stringent guidelines referred to above and detailed below.

Either:

  • A player must have been tested in a match, with the result confirming  a significant loss, within the last six months (‘significant’ determined by the panel) and/or
  • A player must have been defeated 3 times in straight sets by someone ranked outside the top 100, within the last six months and/or
  • A player must have been demonstrably hurt in 3 distinct matches by a series of line calls with which there was disagreement (panel to assess validity), within the last six months

The process includes the redaction of personal information to ensure privacy for all applicants, but that will last about five seconds.

The multi-step independent review process is designed to ensure the integrity of tournaments, and writing that is nonsensical in itself.
