WTA - Hamburg 2R start

Second round commenced in Hamburg. Including completion of first round matches.

2022 Hamburg European Open, a WTA 250 tournament, on Clayin Hamburg, Germany, 18-24 July 2022.

Defending champion:
Qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse who defeated Andrea Petkovic 7-6(6) 6-4

Fifth seed Tamara Zidansek withdrew after the main draw was published due to illness, and was replaced by lucky loser Kateryna Baindl.
Elena-Gabriela Ruse was instated as ninth seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Zidansek.
Baindl took the spot previously occupied by Ruse, and was beaten by Rebecca Peterson.
Dalma Galfi withdrew after the main draw was published due to a knee injury, and was replaced by lucky loser Susan Lamens.
Galfi’s place in the draw was taken by qualifier Sabine Lisicki.
Lamens took the place in the draw originally allocated to a qualifier, and was beaten by third seed Barbora Krejcikova.

First round results:
- Wildcard Anett Kontaveit (1) defeated Irina Bara 6-3 7-6(3)
- Aleksandra Krunic defeated qualifier Sabine Lisicki 6-4 6-2
- Bernarda Pera defeated Elena-Gabriela Ruse (9) 6-0 6-4
- Qualifier Joanne Zuger defeated Jule Niemeier 6-4 0-6 6-4

Second round results:
- Andrea Petkovic (8) defeated Misaki Doi 6-4 6-3
- Barbora Krejcikova (3) defeated Magdalena Frech 6-3 6-0
- Katerina Siniakova defeated Laura Pigossi 6-1 6-1
