Hamburg title for Bernarda Pera

Final day in Hamburg.

2022 Hamburg European Open, a WTA 250 tournament, on Clayin Hamburg, Germany, 18-24 July 2022.

Defending champion:
Qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse who defeated Andrea Petkovic 7-6(6) 6-4

Final:

Wildcard Anett Kontaveit (1) (Estonia) v Bernarda Pera (USA)

In the only previous encounter between the players, Kontaveit won in straight sets in the first round at this year’s Wimbledon.
Pera was aiming to extend her match winning streak to 12, having won her first title in Budapest last week.

Kontaveit served first, and was broken to 15, Pera clinching the game with a winning forehand.
No more break chances until when serving at 2-4, Kontaveit was broken again, leaving Pera to serve for the set.

Pera just surrendered one point, and took the set 6-2.

Pera saved a break point in game four of set two, then broke the Kontaveit serve in the following game.
Another break point was saved by Pera in game six and she held serve to lead 4-2.

As in the first set, Kontaveit dropped serve in the seventh game and Pera would serve for the match.

Pera was broken for the first time in the match but still had the edge 5-3.
The break was consolidated, leaving Pera with a second chance to serve for the match.

No mistakes this time, and Bernarda Pera won the game and the match 6-2 6-4.
The second title in as many weeks, and the 12th match won in succession.
