Zhu Lin 1st title in Hua Hin

Final day in Hua Hin.

2023 Thailand Open, a WTA 250 tournament, on Hard, in Hua Hin, Thailand, 30 January - 5 February 2023.

Not held in 2021 and 2022 due to COVID.

2020 champion (not defending):
Magda Linette (5) who defeated qualifier Leonie Kung 6-3 6-2

Final:

Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine) v Zhu Lin (China)

The players met once previously - Lesia Tsurenko won a three setter - second round in Dubai, February 2019.
Tsurenko would be aiming for a fifth title, her last coming in Mexico, March 2018.
It would be the first final for Zhu.

Zhu served first and was broken.
A love game from Tsurenko consolidated the break and she led 2-0.
Two forehand winners from Tsurenko in the third game helped produced a break point.
It was saved, as was another, and Zhu held for 1-2.

Zhu broke back after Tsurenko wasted a game point in the fourth game. 2-2.
Tsurenko immediately responded, setting up break point with a backhand winner, and converting.
Neither wanted to hold serve, Zhu hitting winners from both forehand and backhand to break and level at 3-3.

Serving at 3-4 and 40-30, Tsurenko lost the next three points and lost her serve.
Zhu would serve for the set at 5-3.

Backhand winner from Tsurenko and double fault from Zhu. 0-30.
Forehand from Zhu netted. Three break points.
Only one required. Zhu led 5-4.

Forehand winner from Zhu, in between errors from Tsurenko, and three set points arrived.
Forehand down the line winner and Zhu won the set 6-4.

The players exchanged service breaks in games four through seven of set two.
Zhu led 4-3.
A drop shot winner from Zhu in game eight set up break point, and a backhand error from Tsurenko confirmed the break.
Zhu served for the match at 5-3.

Tsurenko netted a backhand. Zhu hit a forehand long, 15-15.

Zhu led 5-4.

Tsurenko served to stay in the match.
Double fault and Zhu forehand winner assisted Zhu to two match points.

Backhand winner from Zhu finished the match.

Zhu Lin won 6-4 6-4 to claim her first WTA title.
Her ranking will improve to a career high of #41.
