Final day in Mérida.
2023 Mérida Open Akron, a WTA 250 tournament, on Hard, in Mérida, Mexico, 20-26 February 2023.
This is a new tournament on the WTA Tour calendar, and replaces the Abierto Akron Zapopan, which was held in Zapopan, Mexico from 2019-2022.

Qualifier Rebecca Peterson (Sweden) v Camila Giorgi (Italy)
Giorgi won two of the previous three contests between the players, but they hadn’t met since Palermo in 2020 when Giorgi won a first round match.
In the opening set, Giorgi saved two break points in the third game, and Peterson saved a break point in the sixth.
It was 3-3.
Peterson broke to lead 4-3, but Giorgi struck back in the tenth game to level at 5-5.
Peterson saved a set point when serving at 5-6, and then forced a tie break.
Giorgi raced to a 5-1 lead and eventually won the tie break and the set 7-6(3).
Peterson broke the Giorgi serve in game four of set two to lead 3-1.
Another break and Giorgi slipped behind 5-1.
Peterson served out the set 6-1.
Peterson won her seventh game in a row when she broke Giorgi in game two of the decider.
Giorgi was taken to deuce in the third game but held for 1-2.
The break back occurred in the following game. 2-2.
Giorgi broke again for a 4-2 lead, then held to love, making it five games in a row.
Peterson served to stay in the match, and saved one match point.
She couldn’t save a second, and Giorgi won the battle 7-6(3) 1-6 6-2.
It was title number four for Camila Giorgi, and her first since the Canadian Open in August 2021.
