2023 Qatar TotalEnergies Open, a WTA 500 tournament, on Hard, in Doha, Qatar, 13-19 February 2023.

Defending champion:
Iga Swiatek (7) who defeated Anett Kontaveit (4) 6-2 6-0

Final:

Iga Swiatek (1) (Poland) v Jessica Pegula (2) (USA)

The players met six times previously: Pegula won in Washington in 2019.
Swiatek won all four encounters in 2022, including quarter finals at Roland Garros and US Open (en route to winning both titles).
The most recent clash was in the United Cup last month where Pegula won comfortably.

This is the first tournament for both players since the Australian Open, where Pegula lost in the quarters, and Swiatek lost in the round of sixteen.

Swiatek served first and began with a love game.
The players then exchanged service breaks and Swiatek led 2-1.
Swiatek broke the Pegula serve in the sixth game for 4-2, but the second seed returned the favour immediately.

Serving at 3-4, Pegula dropped serve for a third time.
Swiatek served out the set 6-3.

Set two started with Pegula having her service broken, and Swiatek swept through the remaining games in half an hour.

The top seed won the match 6-3 6-0, successfully defending her title.
Iga Swiatek surrendered only five games throughout the tournament, and now has 12 titles.
