Wu Yibing 1st title in Dallas

Final day in Dallas.

2023 Dallas Open, an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Dallas, USA, 6-12 February 2023.

2022 champion (not defending):
Reilly Opelka (2) who defeated Jenson Brooksby (4) 7-6(5) 7-6(3)

Final:

Wu Yibing (China) v John Isner (5) (USA)

The players had never met before in an ATP tour level match.

Isner saved a break point in the second game of the match.
From there, neither player was taken to deuce until Isner was serving at 5-6 to stay in the set.
Wu hit a winning backhand passing shot to give him a set point, but three big serves from Isner saved the day and forced a tie break.

Isner had two serves at 5-4 in the tie break, and won both points to take the set 7-6(4).

Neither player was taken to deuce for nine games of set two.
Wu served at 4-5 to stay in the match.
He wasted two game points but after visiting deuce twice Wu ultimately held for 5-5.

Isner delivered his third successive love game and led 6-5.
Wu served at 5-6, again to stay in the match.
For the first time in the match Wu faced a break point, which was match point.
He survived, and a tie break occurred.

In the tie break, Wu won all points on his own serve, and two on the Isner serve.
This was enough to take the set 7-6(3).

In the decider, serve was held with relative ease for eight games.
Wu needed to save two break points in the ninth game.
He held serve with an ace on his second game point, and led 5-4.

Isner served to stay in the match, and levelled at 5-5.
Isner served at 5-6 to stay in the match, and held, forcing a third tie break.

The first eleven points went with serve, and Isner had match point with Wu serving.
Wu won the point for 6-6.
Wu won the next point on his serve and had match point with Isner serving.
Isner won both his points and had 8-7 and another match point, Wu serving.
Both points to Wu and he had match point at 9-8 with Isner serving.

Still on serve, and Isner serving at 10-11.
Isner won the first point but lost the next and Wu was serving at 12-11 for the match.
He lost the point and it was back on serve 12-12.

At 12-13, Isner served. The return was good and Isner mishit a forehand.to finish the match.

Wu Yibing won 6-7(4) 7-6(3) 7-6(12) to claim his first ATP title.
His ranking improves 39 places to a career high of #58.
