Krejcikova wins Dubai title

Final day in Dubai.

2023 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, a WTA 1000 tournament, on Hard, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 19-26 February 2023.

Defending champion:
Jelena Ostapenko who defeated Veronika Kudermetova 6-0 6-4

Final:

Iga Swiatek (1) (Poland) v Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic)

Swiatek won the first two of three previous contests between the players - both in 2021.
However, Krejcikova won the most recent - the final in Ostrava, October last year.

Swiatek served first and led 40-15, but smart returning allowed Krejcikova to win the next four points and break serve.
A love game on serve gave Krejcikova a 2-0 lead.

Swiatek broke back to love in the sixth game and it was 3-3.
Krejcikova returned the favour immediately and led 4-3 with a break in hand.

A 40-15 lead for Krejcikova in the eighth game evaporated, and Swiatek eventually broke serve to level at 4-4.
Remarkably, serve was broken for the fourth game in a row, this time Swiatek not winning a point.
Krejcikova would serve for the set at 5-4.

An ace, plus wayward returning from Swiatek, delivered a love game and the first set to Krejcikova 6-4.

In game two of set two, Krejcikova saved two break points before levelling at 1-1.
Krejcikova did the same in game four and it was 2-2.
Swiatek was broken next game and Krejcikova led 3-2.

At 2-4 and 40-15, Swiatek again let a lead slip and was broken.
Krejcikova led 5-2 and would serve for the match.

From 15-15, Krejcikova hit two aces and then her forehand winner sealed the win 6-4 6-2.

This was the sixth career title for Barbora Krejcikova, and first at WTA 1000 level.
