Kontaveit wins in Cleveland

Final in Cleveland.

2021 Tennis in the Land a WTA 250 tournament, on Hard, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, 22-28 August 2021.
No defending champion:
This is a new tournament on the WTA calendar.

Final:

Irina-Camelia Begu (Romania) v Anett Kontaveit (2) (Estonia)

In their first meeting, games went to serve in the opening set before Kontaveit converted a break point in the sixth game to lead 4-2.
Begu’s first opportunities came in the ninth game, and four of those were saved by Kontaveit. The fifth wasn’t and the match was back on level terms.
The eventual tie break was sitting at 5-5, with all points going to the server, but Kontaveit stopped that trend by winning the final two points and the set 7-6(5).

There was just a single break point offered in set two, and Kontaveit converted it in game three. It was sufficient for her to be able to serve out the set and match 7-6(5) 6-4.

This was title number two from eight finals for Kontaveit, the first coming in the Netherlands in June 2017.
