Vondrousova wins Wimbledon final

Day Thirteen - Final day at 2023 Wimbledon.

2023 Wimbledon, on Grass, in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom, 3 - 16 July 2023.

Defending champion:
Elena Rybakina (17) who defeated Ons Jabeur (3) 3-6 6-2 6-2

Final:

Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic) v Ons Jabeur (6) (Tunisia)

The players met six times prior to this final, with three wins apiece.
They had played each other twice this year, Vondrousova winning both times - second round at Australian Open and third round at Indian Wells.
Vondrousova was beaten finalist at Roland Garros in 2019, and Jabeur lost in Wimbledon final last year.

Jabeur broke serve in game two of the opening set to lead 2-0.
In the next game, Jabeur hit the net with a forehand on the second break point she faced, and Vondrousova was back on serve.
Vondrousova saved four break points before holding and levelling at 2-2.

Jabeur broke to love in game six and led 4-2.
Vondrousova broke straight back, also to love, sealing it with forehand and backhand winners.

Vondrousova broke again in the ninth game as Jabeur’s unforced error count increased, and she would serve for the set at 5-4.
A love game and Vondrousova took the set 6-4.

Jabeur was broken in the opening game of set two and Vondrousova led 1-0.
Vondrousova let a 40-0 lead slip and Jabeur broke back to level at 1-1.
Jabeur broke again to lead 3-1.

Vondrousova broke back and games were back on serve.
No more break points until  the unseeded Czech player broke again in the ninth game and would serve for the match.

Vondrousova served out the match 6-4 6-4, finishing it with a volley winner.

This was only the second title on tour for Marketa Vondrousova, but she certainly picked the biggest stage on which to collect it.
