Rublev wins Bastad title

Final day in Bastad.

Defending champion:

Francisco Cerundolo who defeated Sebastian Baez (8) 7-6(4) 6-2

Final:

Casper Ruud (1) (Norway) v Andrey Rublev (2) (Russia)

Rublev won the first four contests between the players, but Ruud won the two most recent:

Round robin at 2021 ATP Finals, and semis at 2022 ATP Finals.

Rublev broke serve in the fifth game of set one to lead 3-2.

Ruud broke back in the eighth game to level at 4-4.

In the following game Ruud saved two break points before holding serve, and eventually a tie break was required.

Two points went against serve in the tie break, both against Ruud, and Rublev capitalised, taking the set 7-6(3).

Rublev swept through the second set, not losing a game, and he wrapped up the match 7-6(3) 6-0.

The prize was title number 14 for Andrey Rublev, second for 2023, following Monte Carlo Masters in April.
