Alcaraz dethrones Djokovic

Day Fourteen - Final day at 2023 Wimbledon.

2023 Wimbledon, on Grass, in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom, 3 - 16 July 2023.

Novak Djokovic (1) who defeated Nick Kyrgios 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6(3)

Final:

Carlos Alcaraz (1) (Spain) v Novak Djokovic (2) (Serbia)

The players met twice previously, Alcaraz winning a semi final in Madrid in 2022, and Djokovic winning a Roland Garros semi final this year.

Djokovic saved a break point in the opening game of the match before holding.
Down 0-40, Alcaraz saved two break points, but not a third, and Djokovic led 2-0.
Djokovic consolidated for 3-0.

Alcaraz was broken again in the fourth game, but held serve at 0-5 to force Djokovic to serve for the set.

Djokovic did as required and took the set 6-1.

The players exchanged breaks of serve in games two and three of set two, and Alcaraz led 2-1.

No more breaks of serve and a tie break was required.

Serving at 6-7, Djokovic lost the point and Alcaraz won the set 7-6(6).

Alcaraz broke Djokovic in the opening game of set three, and he saved two break points in the fourth game before holding serve to lead 3-1.
In an extraordinarily long game Djokovic saved six break points, but finally relented and Alcaraz broke for. 4-1.

Djokovic served at 1-5 to stay in the set but was broken again and Alcaraz won the set 6-1.

Djokovic saved two break points in game two of set four before holding serve.
He broke Alcaraz in the fifth game to lead 3-2.
Alcaraz served at 3-5 to stay in the set but was broken and Djokovic won the set 6-3.

Alcaraz broke Djokovic in the third game of the decider.
No more break chances and Djokovic served at 3-5 to stay in the match.
He held and forced Alcaraz to serve for it.

Carlos Alcaraz served out the match 1-6 7-6(6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 to dethrone the Wimbledon king.
