Qualifier Ruse wins Hamburg

Final in Hamburg.

2021 Hamburg European Open a WTA 250 tournament, on Clay, in Hamburg, Germany, 6-11 July 2021.
Last edition of the tournament was in 2002, won by Kim Clijsters, when it was known as the Betty Barclay Cup.

Qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse (Romania) defeated Andrea Petkovic (Germany) 7-6(6) 6-4


Ruse came into the tournament ranked 198, and so by winning is the lowest ranked to win a WTA title since Margarita Gasparyan In Tashkent 2018 (#299).

Ruse is the third qualifier this year to win a title, following Clara Tauson in Lyon and Liudmila Samsonova in Berlin.

Her ranking improves 65 spots to #133.
