WTA - Gdynia 2R start

First round completed and second round commenced in Gdynia.

2021 BNP Paribas Poland Open a WTA 250 tournament, on Clay, in Gdynia, Poland, 19-25 July 2021.
No defending champion:
This is a new tournament on the WTA calendar.
Poland previously had the Polsat Warsaw Open until it was abolished after 2010, the year in which Alexandra Dulgheru won the tournament (replaced by the Brussels Open from 2011-2013)

The following players withdrew after the main draw was published:

- Top seed Yulia Putintseva, replaced by lucky loser Tereza Mrdeza due to Olympic Games commitment 

Nuria Parrizas Diaz was instated as ninth seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Putintseva.

- Second seed Tamara Zidansek, replaced by lucky loser Jamie Loeb due to change in schedule 

Olga Govortsova was instated as eleventh seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Zidansek

- Fourth seed Tereza Martincova, replaced by lucky loser Marina Melnikova due to a knee injury

Irina Bara was instated as tenth seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Martincova.

- Eighth seed Anhelina Kalinina, replaced by lucky loser Anastasia Zakharova

- Clara Burel, replaced by lucky loser Weronika Falkowska due to an ankle injury 

- Stefanie Voegele, replaced by lucky loser Amina Anshba due to illness 


First round results:

- Maryna Zanevska defeated lucky loser Jamie Loeb 6-2 6-0

- Viktoria Kuzmova defeated Varvara Gracheva (7) 6-4 6-7(4) 7-5


Second round results:

- Irina Bara (10) led Kristina Kucova 6-3 5-7 4-2 when rain stopped play

- Qualifier Anna Bondar defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2 6-7(5) 6-1

- Tamara Korpatsch defeated lucky loser Weronika Falkowska 7-5 6-1
