WTA tour continues with the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Monica Puig (Puerto Rico) who defeated Angelique Kerber (2) (Germany) 6-4 4-6 6-1
Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter up to four players. Qualification for the women’s singles is primarily through the WTA ranking list of 14 June 2021.
The draw is limited to 64 and the first 56 are directly accepted based on the world rankings
The following players ranked in the top twenty withdrew for various reasons:

- Bianca Andreescu
- Simona Halep
- Victoria Azarenka
- Serena Williams
Ashleigh Barty, world number 1, is top seed.
The other 15 seeds are all in the top 24
