Korda wins Parma title

Final in Parma.

2021 Emilia-Romagna Open an ATP 250 tournament, on Clay, in Parma, Italy, 22-29 May 2021.
No defending champion:
This is a new tournament on the ATP calendar.

Final:

Sebastian Korda (USA) v wildcard Marco Cecchinato (Italy)

It was the first time the two had met, and Korda converted two of the three break points he had presented to him in set one.

Cecchinato was unable to make an impression on the American serve, and was behind 6-2 after just 32 minutes.

Set two provided only a single break point for each player in the first nine games, neither of which was converted.

Serving at 4-5 to stay in the match, Cecchinato was down 15-40. He saved one match point but not the second, and Korda won the match.

This was the first ATP title for Korda, in his second final, the other being Delray Beach in January this year, beaten by Hubert Hurkacz.

The Emilia-Romagna Open victory helps Korda jump 13 spots up to a career high ranking of #50.

He is the first American to win a European clay court tournament since Sam Querrey in Belgrade eleven years ago.

He also joins his father, former world #2 Petr Korda, to become the third father-son combination to win ATP singles titles in the Open Era.
