WTA - Zhengzhou 1R start

First round commenced in Zhengzhou.

2023 Zhengzhou Open, a WTA 500 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Zhengzhou, China, 9-15 October 2023.

Tournament last held in 2019. 
2020, 2021 cancelled due to COVID.
2022 cancelled due to concerns for Peng Shuai 

2019 champion:
Karolina Pliskova (1) who defeated Petra Martic (7) 6-3 6-2

Top seed CoCo Gauff withdrew after the main draw was published due to a shoulder injury, and was replaced by lucky loser Diana Shnaider.
Seventh seed Barbora Krejcikova was moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Gauff, and received the first round bye originally given to Gauff.
Liudmila Samsonova was instated as eleventh seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Krejcikova.
Second seed Elena Rybakina withdrew after the main draw was published due to a back injury, and was replaced by lucky loser Tamara Korpatsch.
Sixth seed Caroline Garcia was moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Rybakina, and received the first round bye originally given to Rybakina.
Donna Vekic was instated as tenth seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Garcia.
Fifth seed Karolina Muchova withdrew after the main draw was published due to a wrist injury, and was replaced by lucky loser Moyuka Uchijima.
Veronika Kudermetova was instated as ninth seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Muchova.
