The WTA tour continues in China.
2023 Huafa Technology WTA Elite Trophy, a WTA invitation only tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Zhuhai, China, 24-29 October 2023.
Tournament last held in 2019.
2020, 2021 cancelled due to COVID.
2022 cancelled due to concerns for Peng Shuai
2019 champion (not defending):
Aryna Sabalenka (4) who defeated Kiki Bertens (1) 6-4 6-2
The field consists of the top 11 players not already qualified for the 2023 WTA Finals, plus a wildcard.
If a wildcard is not confirmed in time, then the next player not already qualified for the WTA Finals will be included.
The final two alternates for the 2023 WTA Finals are also eligible to play in the WTA Elite Trophy (if required) even if they ultimately participate in the WTA Finals.
The 12 players are split into four groups of three and begin with a round robin event over the first four days of competition.
Each player meets the other two players in her group with the winner in each group advancing to the semi finals. The winners of each semi final meet in the championship match.
