Kudermetova wins Tokyo title

Kudermetova won the only previous encounter between the players -

A quarter final in Madrid earlier this year.

In this final Kudermetova broke serve in the second game of set one to lead 2-0.

Pegula broke back in game five.

No more break points faced until Pegula served at 5-6 to stay in the set.

One set point was saved, but not a second and Kudermetova took the set 7-5.

In a repeat of set one, Kudermetova broke the American serve in game two of set two and led 2-0.

Consolidation extended this to 3-0.

Another service break in the sixth game gave Kudermetova a 5-1 advantage.

Pegula served to stay in the match and saved two match points.

A third couldn’t be saved and Kudermetova won the oontest 7-5 6-1.

This was title number two for Veronika Kudermetova, her debut trophy coming in Charleston - April 2021.
