First final for Kotov
In game three of set one Kotov broke to lead 2-1.
He broke Monfils again in the seventh game for 5-2.
Serving for the set, Kotov couldn’t convert three set points and he was eventually broken.
Serving at 5-4, a second timefor the set, Kotov succeeded and was ahead 6-4.
For ten games in set two, neither player was even taken to deuce, let alone faced a break point.
Game eleven saw Monfils having to save three break points and a tie break was ultimately required.
At 4-6, Kotov saved two set points, but serving at 6-7, he lost the point, and Monfils took the set 7-6(6).
Monfils broke Kotov in the opening game of the decider.
Kotov saved three break points in the fifth game to avoid going down a double break.
Monfils broke again in game seven to lead 5-2.
He couldn’t serve out the match, broken but still ahead 5-3.
Serving to stay in the match, Kotov was broken and Monfils was victorious.
Gaël Monfils won 4-6 7-6(6) 6-3.
Title number twelve for Monfils and first since Adelaide - January 2022.
