Sinner wins China Open

Final day in Beijing.

2023 China Open, an ATP 500 tournament, on Hard Outdoor, Beijing, China, 28 September - 4 October 2023.

Tournament last held in 2019. 

2020, 2021 and 2022 cancelled due to COVID.

2019 champion (not defending):

Dominic Thiem (1) who defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas (3) 3-6 6-4 6-1

Final:

Jannik Sinner (6) (Italy) v Daniil Medvedev (2) (Russia)

Medvedev won all six previous matches between the players.

This included two finals this year - Rotterdam and Miami Masters.

In this final, Sinner saved a break point in game five of the opening set before holding.

He led 3-2.

Medvedev saved two break points in the eighth game and levelled at 4-4.

No more break opportunities and a tie break was required.

Sinner raced to 5-0, and Medvedev couldn’t mount a comeback.

Sinner took the set 7-6(2).

Medvedev saved three break points in game three of set two.

No more break chances and another tie break.

Sinner won the tie break and match 7-6(2) 7-6(2).

First win over Medvedev, and ninth title for Jannik Sinner. (Third this year following wins in Marseille and Toronto)
