Karen Khachanov (27) v Casper Ruud (5)
Ruud won the only previous meeting between the players - a round match in Rome 2020.
The pair exchanged breaks of serve in games two and three of the opening set, and Ruud lead 2-1.
Khachanov broke later to lead 4-3, but Ruud immediately broke back to level at 4-4.
Ruud saved a break point before holding and taking the lead 5-4.
Khachanov saved a set point when serving at 4-5, and he held on.
A tiebreak was ultimately required.
Khachanov lost the point on his first serve in the tie break, and from there every point went with serve. So at 6-3 Ruud had three set points.
Khachanov saved two, but Ruud served it out 7-6(5).
Khachanov saved three break points in the opening game of set two and held serve.
However, he was broken in games three and five, and Ruud did not drop a single point on his own serve throughout the set.
Ruud ahead 7-6(5) 6-2.
No one dropped serve in set three throughout the first eleven games.
Ruud saved the only break point faced in that time.
Ruud served at 5-6 to stay in the set.
He netted a backhand. 0-15. Overhead put away by Ruud. 15-15. Double fault. 15-30. Forehand wide by Ruud.

In game three of set four, Khachanov was serving at 1-1.
Forehand long from Khachanov, volley winner from Ruud, and netted backhand from Khachanov produced two break points for Ruud.
A,stunning forehand down the line winner from Ruud achieved the break, and he led 2-1.
Khachanov saved two break points in the fifth game, but couldn’t save a third, and Ruud jumped away to a 4-1 advantage.
Khachanov served at 1-5 to stay in the match and managed the task, leaving Ruud to serve for the match.
Casper Ruud served out the match without drama 7-6(5) 6-2 5-7 6-2, and reached the US Open final.
