Alcaraz in 5 sets makes final

Day Twelve - Semi final day at the 2022 US Open.

2022 US Open, on Hard, in New York City, New York, USA, 29 August - 11 September 2022.

Defending champion:
Daniil Medvedev (2) who defeated Novak Djokovic (1) 6-4 6-4 6-4

Second semi final:

Carlos Alcaraz (3) v Frances Tiafoe (22)

Tiafoe won the only previous meeting between the players - first round in Barcelona, 2021.

Tiafoe saved two break points in the seventh game of set one before holding, and led 4-3.
Alcaraz saved a set point when serving at 5-6, and a tie break was required.

Tiafoe achieved an early mini break to lead 2-1, and no further points were won against serve until the American had set point at 6-5.
Alcaraz saved the set point and it was 6-6.
Alcaraz couldn’t save the set point faced at 6-7, and Tiafoe led 7-6(6).

In set two, Alcaraz saved a break point in game three and held serve.
Tiafoe saved a break point in game six but not a second and Alcaraz led 4-2.
The third seed consolidated after saving another break point.

Tiafoe saved two set points when serving to stay in the set, but Alcaraz served it out 6-3.

Set three was all Alcaraz, breaking Tiafoe three times, and not facing a break point himself.
6-1 to the Spaniard.

In set four, breaks were exchanged in games two through five, and no break points faced for the next four games.
Serving at 4-5, Tiafoe saved a match point and held for 5-5.
In a required tie break, Tiafoe was successful, and he took the set 7-6(5).

Three breaks of serve in the first five games of the decider, two claimed by Alcaraz, who led 3-2.
Serving at 3-5 to stay in the match, Tiafoe was down 0-40, facing three match points.
He saved two, but not a third.

Carlos Alcaraz won the match 6-7(6) 6-3 6-1 6-7(5) 6-3 to reach the US Open final.

Final will be between:

Casper Ruud (5) (Norway) v Carlos Alcaraz (3) (Spain)
