Casper Ruud (5) (Norway) v Carlos Alcaraz (3) (Spain)
Alcaraz won the two previous meetings between the players, most recently the final in Miami this year.
In the opening two games of set one both players held serve, but each had to save two break points.
The third game saw a lucky net cord for Alcaraz and a volley winner from the same player helped him to three break points.
Ruud was broken on the second when he hit a forehand wide.
Alcaraz saved a break point in the next game, and held serve to take a 3-1 lead.
Ruud served at 3-5 to stay in the set, and held comfortably.
Alcaraz served for the set.
Volley winner from Alcaraz. 15-0. Ruud backhand wide. 30-0. Ruud return netted. Three set points.
Another Ruud return hit the net and Alcaraz was ahead 6-4.
Serving at 2-2 in set two, Ruud had 40-15, but let it slip and faced a break point.
He saved it with a big serve, and eventually held.
Ruud broke Alcaraz in the sixth game, then saved a break point in the next game before holding for 5-2.
Alcaraz served to stay in the set, and was forced to deuce.
A backhand from Alcaraz sailed long and gave Ruud set point.
A forehand from Ruud hit the net. Deuce. Double fault and set point again.
An overhead winner at the net by Ruud and the set was his 6-2.
Errors from Ruud in the opening game of set three gave Alcaraz three break points.
Two were saved, but a drop shot from Alcaraz forced Ruud into error on the third, and the break was realised.
Alcaraz consolidated the break, sealing the game with an ace.
Ruud saved a break point in game three, and avoided going down a double break.
The fifth seed then broke back to level at 2-2.
Ruud consolidated and took the lead 3-2.
Alcaraz served at 4-5 to stay in the set. He did the job and levelled at 5-5.
Alcaraz served at 5-6, again to stay in the set.
At 30-30, Ruud stunned with a forehand down the line winner.
Set point saved with a forehand volley winner from Alcaraz.
After a couple more deuces, a forehand winner from Ruud produced another set point.
It was saved with an overhead winner from the third seed.
After five deuces in the game, serve was held, necessitating a tiebreak.
The first three points went with serve, but Ruud lost both points on his serve at 1-2.
Alcaraz pressed home the advantage, winning both points on his serve, leading 6-1, and having five set points.
Ruud’s forehand missed, and Alcaraz took the set 7-6(1).
No break chances through five games of set four.
Ruud served at 2-3. At 30-30, he hit an overhead out of court, and Alcaraz had a break point.
Ruud then hit a backhand long and that was the break.
4-2 to Alcaraz.
Alcaraz served at 5-3 for the match.

He becomes the world #1 as a result.
