2022 Rothesay International Eastbourne, a WTA 500 tournament, on Grass, in Eastbourne, United Kingdom, 19-25 June 2022.
Defending champion:
Wildcard Jelena Ostapenko who defeated Anett Kontaveit 6-3 6-3
Final:
Petra Kvitova (14) (Czech Republic) v Jelena Ostapenko (8) (Latvia)
The eight previous contests between the players had been split 4-4, the most recent a win to Ostapenko in Dubai earlier this year.
In set one, Kvitova did not face a break point, in fact wasn’t taken to deuce.
Ostapenko, however, was broken in her first service game, and had to save break points in the next two.
Serving at 2-5, the defending champion saved two set points, but that only gave Kvitova the chance to deliver a love game to take the set 6-3.
In set two, Kvitova broke the Latvian serve in game three, then fought off five break points in the longest game of the match before holding for 3-1.
Another break left Kvitova ahead 4-1, and Ostapenko saved a match point when serving at 1-5.
Kvitova served out the match 6-3 6-2 to take her first Eastbourne title, and 29th overall in her illustrious career.
