Ugo Humbert who defeated Andrey Rublev (4) 6-3 7-6(4)
Final:
Daniil Medvedev (1) v Hubert Hurkacz (5) (Poland)
The players had split their four previous contests 2-2, Hurkacz winning the most recent, a quarter final in Miami earlier this year.
Medvedev had won 13 titles from 24 finals before this one.
Hurkacz had won all his four finals before this one.
Hurkacz survived two deuces in the opening game, then broke Medvedev in both the second and fourth games.
The Polish player didn’t face a break point, and served out the set 6-1.
The train wreck for Medvedev continued in set two, where he was down 0-40 in the first game.
Two of the break points were saved, but not a third, and Hurkacz was ahead 1-0.
The next break points on offer were in the seventh game, but Medvedev managed to save those two and trail 3-4.
Medvedev, when serving at 3-5 to stay in the match, did save a match point.
He held on and forced Hurkacz to serve for it.
Hurkacz had no difficulty serving it out 6-1 6-4 to claim his first grass court title.
