Maxime Cressy (USA) v Taylor Fritz (3) (USA)
This would be the first ATP match between the pair.
Cressy served first and was broken.
He saved a break point in the fifth game to avoid a double break.
Serving at 2-4, Cressy double faulted, failed with a volley, double faulted again, then put another volley out of court to drop serve.
Fritz would serve for the set at 5-2.
No trouble. A backhand winner, an ace, and a forehand winner to seal the set for Fritz 6-2.
Set two was more a competition with no break chances and only one game going to deuce.
A tie break was needed to separate them.
Serving at 2-3, Fritz volleyed into the net, giving Cressy the advantage.
Things went with serve until Fritz was serving at 3-6, facing three set points.
He saved one with an ace.
Fritz then hit a forehand long and Cressy took the set 7-6(4).
The first five games of the decider were love games in favour of the server.
Game six began with two double faults from Cressy to break the cycle, but the danger was averted and 3–3 the result.
Serving at 5-6 and 15-30, Cressy played two clutch volleys to extract him from potential disaster and send the match into a tie break decider.
Cressy double faulted with his first serve in the breaker. Fritz led 2-0.
No more points against serve until Cressy served at 4-6, having just saved one match point.
Cressy mishit an overhead and the match was over.
Taylor Fritz won 6-2 6-7(4) 7-6(4) to claim his second Eastbourne title.
