Swiatek dominates Doha final

Final day in Doha.

2022 Qatar TotalEnergies Open a WTA 1000 tournament, on Hard Plexicushion Prestige, in Doha, Qatar, 20-26 February 2022.
Event held last year from 1-6 March 2021.

Defending champion:
Petra Kvitova (4) who defeated Garbiñe Muguruza 6-2 6-1

Final:

Iga Swiatek (7) (Poland) v Anett Kontaveit (4) (Estonia)

The pair had split their four previous meetings 2-2, with Swiatek winning the most recent - third round US Open 2021.
In her fifth final, Swiatek was hoping to win her fourth title.
In her fourteenth final, Kontaveit was hoping to win her seventh title.

Kontaveit served first, and the first chance to break came in the third game.
Quality returning from Swiatek pressured Kontaveit into errors and the break was confirmed.
Immediately, Kontaveit broke back. 2-2.

The Swiatek forehand caused damage in the fifth game and allowed the seventh seed to break again.
Swiatek saved a break point when consolidating for 4-2.

Kontaveit saved two break points in the next game, but not a third, and Swiatek would serve for the set.

Swiatek missed with backhand and forehand, then delivered an ace. 15-30. A netted forehand from Swiatek gave Kontaveit two break points.
Kontaveit went long with a forehand return, then did the same with a backhand. A stunning off forehand winner gave Swiatek a set point.
Kontaveit put a forehand wide and the set was over. Swiatek led 6-2.

Kontaveit was broken in the opening game of set two.
Serving at 0-2, Kontaveit found herself down 0-40. She saved two of the break points but Swiatek converted the third, and led 3-0 with serve to come.
Swiatek saved a break point before holding for 4-0, then broke Kontaveit yet again to lead 6-2 5-0.

Serving for the match, Swiatek hit a forehand winner and an ace and reached three match points.
Kontaveit’s backhand went long and the match was over.

Swiatek won comprehensively 6-2 6-0 to take the title.
