Final day in Montpellier.
2022 Open Sud de France - an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Montpellier, France, 31 January - 6 February 2022.
Event held last year from 22-28 February 2021.
Defending champion:
David Goffin (2) who defeated Roberto Bautista Agut (1) 5-7 6-4 6-2
Final:
Wildcard Alexander Zverev (1) (Germany) v Alexander Bublik (6) (Kazakhstan)
Bublik won the only previous encounter between the pair, in the first round at Rotterdam, March 2021.
Bublik was in his fifth ATP final, his most recent in Singapore, February 2021. He had yet to win one.
Zverev was in his 29th final, having won 19. His last title came in the ATP Finals in Turin, November 2021.
Zverev served first and the first four games went with serve.
Bublik broke the German serve in the fifth game, but dropped his own immediately to love. 3–3.
Another love game on serve gave the top seed the lead 4-3.
Serving at 4-4, Zverev hit a forehand long, made a mess of an overhead at the net, then double faulted. He hit a forehand into the net on the second break point, and Bublik would serve for the set.
Down 15-40, Bublik produced some big serves to save the break points and take the set 6-4.
Zverev saved two break points in the third game of set two, but was broken in the fifth.
Zverev served at 3-5 to stay alive.
His two errors plus a Bublik winner confirmed a victory for Alexander Bublik 6-4 6-3, and his first title.
