Felix finally wins his 1st title

Final day in Rotterdam.

2022 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament an ATP 500 tournament, on Hard Indoor, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, 7-13 February 2022.
Event held last year from 1-7 March 2021.

Defending champion:
Andrey Rublev (4) who defeated qualifier Marton Fucsovics 7-6(4) 6-4.


Final:


Stefanos Tsitsipas (1) (Greece) v Felix Auger-Aliassime (3) (Canada)


Of the seven battles between the two before this final, Felix won the first two, but Tsitsipas prevailed in the next five, including the latest in Cincinnati quarters, August 2021.


Felix sailed into the top ten this year, but still without a title on the the ATP tour. After eight final losses, he was hoping for a breakthrough in his ninth.

Tsitsipas, in his 18th final, was aiming for an eighth title, his most recent coming in Lyon - May 2021.


Felix broke the Greek serve in the opening game and led 1-0.

Tsitsipas saved a break point in game five to avoid going down a double break - he trailed 2-3.


No more break points available in the set which Felix served out to love 6-4.


Felix rode his confidence and broke Tsitsipas to love in the opening game of set two.

Tsitsipas saved two break points in the third game but was still down a break 1-2.

The double break came when Tsitsipas failed to hold in the fifth game. Felix was close to the finish line now, leading 6-4 4-1.


Felix Auger-Aliassime served out the match 6-4 6-2 and finally captured his first ATP title.
