Final day in Dubai.

2022 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships a WTA 500 tournament, on Hard Deco Turf II, in Dubai, UAE, 14-19 February 2022.
Event held last year from 7-13 March 2021.

Defending champion:
Garbiñe Muguruza (9) who defeated Barbora Krejcikova 7-6(6) 6-3

Final:

Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) v Veronika Kudermetova (Russia)

This was the first meeting between the two.

Ostapenko was in her 11th final and competing for her 5th title, first since Eastbourne in June 2021.

Kudermetova was in her 4th final, and competing for her 2nd title, her other trophy coming in Charleston in April 2021.

Ostapenko opened to love, then broke Kudermetova the very next game. 2-0 in a flash.

The 2017 Roland Garros champion repeated the dose - love game on service, and breaking Kudermetova in the fourth game for a 4-0 lead.

The set was over in just 26 minutes with Ostapenko only surrendering 8 points to Kudermetova in a 6-0 demolition.

Stung badly by what had occurred, the Russian began set two by immediately breaking the Ostapenko serve.

Ostapenko broke back in the fourth game for 2-2.

Serving at 3-4, Kudermetova couldn’t convert a game point, and ended up dropping her serve.

Ostapenko served for the match, and was broken.

Serving at 4-5 to stay in the match, Kudermetova saved one match point, but not the second, and Jelena Ostapenko won the title 6-0 6-4.

To capture the title, Ostapenko had along the way beaten Grand Slam champions Kenin, Swiatek, Kvitova, and Halep.
