Norrie wins Delray Beach Open

Final day in Delray Beach.

2022 Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com - an ATP 250 tournament, on Hard, in Delray Beach, Florida, USA, 14-20 February 2022.
Event held last year from 7-13 January 2021.

2021 champion (not defending):
Hubert Hurkacz (4) who defeated Sebastian Korda 6-3 6-3

Final:

Cameron Norrie (1) (Great Britain) v Reilly Opelka (2) (USA)

Norrie won 2 of the three previous meetings between the pair, although one was a futures match in 2016.

Norrie won the last clash - second round, Paris Masters, November 2021.

In his 8th final, Norrie was looking for a third title, his most recent Indian Wells, October 2021.

In his 5th final, Opelka was looking for a fourth title, his most recent Dallas last week.

Opelka served first and typically it was a love game.

His second service game was more troublesome, a break point needing to be saved.

Norrie had given up just two points on serve in joining the American at 2-2.

Opelka was taken to deuce in the fifth game, and was down 15-40 in the seventh.

Norrie meanwhile had contributed a love game for 3-3.

Opelka somehow saved the break points and held to lead 4-3, despite being the player under all the pressure.

Opelka survived a three deuce game when serving at 5-5, and in the process saved another break point.

Norrie forced a tie break having not been taken to deuce all set.

The first point was to Norrie and against the serve of Opelka.

Serving at 1-3, the American lost another point and was deep in trouble.

They changed ends with Norrie ahead 5-1 and a serve in hand.

The top seed won the next point, and with five set points only needed one to secure a 7-6(1) lead.

Set two began more competitively.

Norrie was taken to deuce in the fifth game, the first time he’d been extended on serve the entire match.

The next visit to deuce was when Opelka was serving at 3-4.

He needed to save a break point before levelling.

A second tie break was required.

The first nine points went with serve, but serving at 4-5, Opelka lost the next point.

Serving at 4-6, facing two match points, Opelka lost the next point and the match.

Cameron Norrie won the Delray Beach Open 7-6(1) 7-6(4).
