Ramos-Vinolas triumphant in Córdoba

Final day in Córdoba.

2022 Córdoba Open an ATP 250 tournament, on Clay, in Córdoba, Argentina, 31 January - 6 February 2022.
Event held last year from 20-28 February 2021.

2021 champion (not defending):
Qualifier Juan Manuel Cerundolo who defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-0 2-6 6-2


Final:


Qualifier Alejandro Tabilo (Chile) v Albert Ramos-Vinolas (6) (Spain)


This was the first meeting on tour between the two players.


For Tabilo, it was the first ATP Tour level final, although he had won 3 ITF Futures titles and 1 Challenger title before.

Ramos-Vinolas had won 3 ATP Tour titles from 10 finals, the last one coming in Estoril, May 2021.


Tabilo held serve in the opening game, then both players had difficulties in the next two games from the line.

Albert saved a break point but held on in a three deuce game.

Tabilo’s struggle was more pronounced - seven deuces, four break points saved, and finally succumbing to a fifth.

Albert led 2-1 after 24 minutes.


Tabilo broke back to love in the sixth game. 3-3.


Albert was serving at 4-5 to stay in the set but was broken for a second time. Tabilo took the set 6-4.


Tabilo saved two break points in the opening game of set two, then broke Albert to love and led 2-0.

Albert broke back straight away, also to love.

Serving at 3-3, Tabilo led 40-15, but lost the next four points and his serve.

Albert consolidated for 5-3.


Serving to stay in the set, Tabilo saved a set point, but not a second, and Albert squared the match 4-6 6-3.


Albert was broken in the opening game of the decider, and saved three break points in the third game to avoid going down a double break.

The double break however did come in the fifth game, and Tabilo appeared set for victory leading 4-1.

But that was the end of the road for the qualifier, as Albert won the remaining five games.


Title number four for Albert Ramos-Vinolas 4-6 6-3 6-4.
