Muchova won the only previous contest between the players. - round one in Prague 2019.
Swiatek broke the Muchova serve in game two of the match, and led 2-0.
The defending champ struggled in game five, but saved a break point and held for a 4-1 advantage.
Muchova saved a break point in the next game with a backhand winner.
She clinched the game with another backhand winner, and trailed 2-4.
Serving to stay in the set, Muchova, with backhand errors and a less than adequate drop shot, gave Swiatek three set points.
Only one required, and Swiatek led 6-2.
As she’d done in the opening set, Swiatek chose game two in which to break Muchova in set two.
Quick love game to consolidate at 3-0.
Muchova broke back in game five, a sensational forehand down the line converting the break point.
Some uncharacteristic unforced errors from Swiatek gave Muchova a break point in the ninth game, and a double fault confirmed a 5-4 lead for the unseeded player.
Muchova served for the set, but made a mess of it, allowing Swiatek to break back and level at 5-5.
Amazingly, Swiatek was broken in successive service games and Muchova would have another chance to serve for the set, this time at 6-5.
Muchova took the set 7-5 with her third set point, but the highlight was the point before which was ended with a wonderful stretch volley winner from Muchova.
A third set was required.
Swiatek was broken to love in the opening game of the decider.
Another love game from Muchova to consolidate and she led 2-0.
Swiatek broke back in the fourth game for 2-2.
Muchova broke in the seventh game to regain the lead 4-3.
Swiatek immediately struck back and it was 4-4.
Swiatek saved a break point before holding and led 5-4.
Muchova served to stay in the match.
Swiatek broke serve and won the match 6-2 5-7 6-4.
This was a successful defence of her title and her third Roland Garros win in four years.
It was the fourth career major for Iga Swiatek.
