Griekspoor wins Libéma Open

Final day in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

2023 Libéma Open, an ATP 250 tournament, on Grass, ‘s- Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, 12-18 June 2023.

2022 champion (not defending):
Wildcard Tim van Rijthoven who defeated Daniil Medvedev (1) 6-4 6-1

Final:

Jordan Thompson (Australia) v Tallon Griekspoor (6) (Netherlands)

Thompson won the only previous meeting between the players - a Davis Cup quarter final match in 2022.

Second career final for Thompson - he lost the 2019 final of this tournament to Adrian Mannarino.
Second career final also for Griekspoor - he won the Maharashtra Open in India, January this year.

Players exchanged service breaks in the opening two games of set one.

Griekspoor saved a break point in games seven and eleven, but held serve each time.

A tie break was required.

Thompson had a 4-1 lead with two serves to come, but he lost both points, and eventually it was 4-4.
Griekspoor lost the next point on his own serve, and Thompson served out the tie break and set 7-6(4).

Serve wasn’t threatened for eight games of set two, and then breaks were swapped in the next two games.
The score was 5-5.

A second tie break needed and Thompson dropped two points on his serve, leaving Griekspoor to win the set 7-6(3).

Griekspoor broke the Thompson serve in game six of the decider to lead 4-2.

No more break chances and Tallon Griekspoor served out the match 6-7(4) 7-6(3) 6-3

The title which came with victory was the second for Griekspoor, and special as it arrived in front of a home crowd.
