Rune wins Munich

Final day in Munich..

2022 BMW Open by American Express an ATP 250 tournament, on Clayin Munich, Germany, 25 April - 1 May 2022.

Defending champion:
Nikoloz Basilashvili (5) who defeated Jan-Lennard Struff (7) 6-4 7-6(5)

Final:

Wildcard Holger Rune (Denmark) v Botic van de Zandschulp (8) (Netherlands)

This would be the first ATP meeting between the two players, and the first final for both.

Botic served first and, although taken to deuce, held for 1-0.

Three successive service breaks then gave Botic a 3-1 lead. This was extended to 4-1 when the eighth seed delivered a love game.

Serving at 4-2 and 30-0, Botic lost three straight points and faced a break point.
He saved it and two more afterwards, but when a fourth break chance came, Rune ran down a drop shot and forced Botic into error.
The break and games back on serve.

Lengthy medical time out for Botic. 

Once play resumed, Rune served at 3-4. At 40-15, Botic had to retire and the match was over.

Holger Rune won 3-4 (retired) and collected his first ATP title.
