Defending champion:
Alexander Zverev (5) who defeated Matteo Berrettini (8) 6-7(8) 6-4 6-3
11th seed Taylor Fritz withdrew after the main draw was published due to a foot injury, and was replaced by lucky loser Ugo Humbert.
Roberto Bautista Agut was instated as 17th seed and moved in the draw to the place previously occupied by Fritz.
Bautista Agut’s original place in the draw was taken by qualifier Dusan Lajovic.
Humbert’s place in the draw was originally reserved for a qualifier, but as a lucky loser he now filled the spot, and would play Denis Shapovalov (14) first up.
First round results:
- John Isner defeated Filip Krajinovic 7-6(8) 6-4
- Wildcard Jack Draper defeated Lorenzo Sonego 6-4 6-3
- Daniel Evans defeated Federico Delbonis 6-3 6-4
