Goffin wins in Marrakech

Final day in Marrakech.

Event not held in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID

Benoit Paire who defeated Pablo Andujar 6-2 6-3

Final:

Alex Molcan (Slovakia) v David Goffin (Belgium)

Molcan won the only prior meeting between the pair - round of sixteen, Melbourne Summer Set, January this year - in straight sets.

Molcan lost his only previous final - the Belgrade Open in May 2021.
Goffin had won five titles from his fourteen previous finals, the most recent in Montpellier, February 2021.

In set one, there were service breaks in games two, three and four, leaving Molcan ahead 3-1.
Goffin was unable to retrieve the extra break against him, as 20 of the next 23 points went with serve.
Molcan won the set 6-3.

Molcan converted the third break point presented to him in the opening game of set two, and Goffin trailed 0-1.
In game four Molcan led 40-15, but Goffin fought back to break and level at 2-2.
Goffin broke again in the sixth game for 4-2.

Serving for the set, Goffin saved a break point before squaring things at 3-6 6-3.

Goffin broke serve in the opening game of the decider.

Serving at 4-3, Goffin saved a break point and eventually held to be within a game of victory.
Molcan was down 0-30 when serving to stay in the match, but won three successive points to earn a game point.
However, Goffin applied more pressure and achieved a match point. This was saved.

A second match point arrived, and was converted - David Goffin celebrated a 3-6 6-3 6-3 title win.
